Father's Day 2024

Dear Readers,

My duties as a traveling lawyer take me through the back country of our beautiful American land, rich in resources. I recently visited some of the largest copper mines and most productive farmland in North America. Amidst our trouble  and selfishness, men are blessed to live here. Indeed, our Father in heaven has bestowed His bounty on us and says that He will continue to do so as long as we honor our Fathers, that we may live long on the land our God has given to us.

My earthly Father is now enjoying his 98th year, and I am thankful that he has stayed with us long enough for me to have learned the right questions to ask him. He offers sound advice from wisdom gained over nearly a century of living life with his Bible in hand and in his mental sod.

Though not as able-bodied as he once was, his spirit has waxed stronger with the passing years. He has remained right headed on the right road, progressing as a Christian man, husbanding a wife, land, and livestock as a farmer, father, and grandfather, having raised four sons.

I learned much from Dad, being with him in the oilfield as a boy, and while working beside him in the field and with the livestock. If he was not trotting, he was plodding, but in all events, always moving, up and going with the chickens at daylight, telling us that work was more enjoyable than any other thing. But he never worked on Sundays, except to water, feed, and tend the livestock.

When raising my own children, I drew from lessons Dad taught me. Sometimes those lessons came from applying the board of education to my seat of knowledge.

If your Father is still kickin’, tell him you are thankful that he fathered you; if he has passed on, tell a friend that you are thankful for your Father.

That is all for now “from the remote hinterlands of the Wabash River Valley, where the hogs, the frogs, and the dogs keep up a racket all night long.” To see the mug my team made for me with those words, click HERE.

Warm regards,

Brent Allan Winters
